Electrons & Bulbs

This is a section devoted to vintage and tube electronics.

OK all, so just how does a "Mechanic" know anything about electronics? For those that don't know, I have a degree in electronics from ITT tech, Indy.

I did electronic service for Sears from 1986 until 2002 when I began my work in small engines. Before that, I worked on older electronics such as TV's, radios, phonographs, guitar amps, and audio equipment.

So, in this day and age, there isn't enough work to keep me going by hanging a sign in the front yard saying "TV Repair", so this will be largely internet based during the off season. I am NOT accepting service at this time, however, will in the future. This will be VINTAGE electronics, meaning mid 1970's and older, and audio equipment, guitar amps, etc that uses TUBES. So don't bring me that $80 flat screen from Walmart and ask me to fix it, or that old gaming TV from your basement.

Have an old TV, radio or record player from the 1930's to 1960's or early 1970's that you need to get rid of? I recycle those! Anything newer will get sent back with you (sorry:-(

You have a guitar amp that uses tubes and it doesn't sound right? Or want to get that family heirloom radio/TV running again? I can help! Just keep in mind that some parts may not be available or difficult to find, others are readily available. This is a spare time work, so if you're in a hurry, DON'T bring it to me! It is time consuming since those electronics are 50+ years old and won't just need a tube or something simple replaced. They will need gone through carefully, tested, parts such as capacitors replaced, tested some more, cleaned, and  did I mention testing?

This is a page to show off off some of my work, offer some help and talk about yesterdays way of life. This will be evolving as things move along. I will have an area that in my shop that I will showcase some of my old electronics, some will be restored, some for sale, some waiting to be restored. So, you might come in for your lawnmower repair and take a seat with a cup of coffee and watch Andy Griffith on a restored vintage TV set! Or you might hear my Dynaco pumping out some jams!

I plan to offer some amp kits and have some tubes and parts on hand, set bias. Stuff to get that amp sounding right for your next event!

Stay tuned for this one. More to come.
